Why use Grow@?
This service can introduce you to hundreds of workers looking for the type of jobs you are offering. We have developed a pool of people interested in doing cleaning, catering, security, driving, traffic control or labour work.
Candidates use the app to define their preferred type of work along with the area and times/days they are available. When you use the service, you will only be connecting with people who are available and interested.
Why not just place and ad?
On-line ads are a lot more expensive than using the Grow@ Services. Also, it will take 3-4 weeks before you actually employ someone.
Grow@ offers you the ability to immediately find someone that is able to undertake the job you have, and to set-up to interview them (even through a video call) straight away.
The work that you or your administrator / recruiter need to do to check documents and sign off paperwork is no different through using Grow@ than it would be through placing an ad or having someone walk in to apply for a job. Just this way, its instant.
On line advertisers use quite complicated methods to make their costs seem lower than they are. The two main paid for on line job advertisers charge an average rate of around $320 per ad. Of course, someone still has to sift through all the applications, separate off the ones who are not actually in New Zealand, remove those who were applying for something that was not being advertised, and then contact the reminder to see who is still available. It is all of that work that the app has already done for you. And, if you don’t find anyone, it costs you nothing – so why not try it before placing an ad?
What use is it if Grow@ does not check / vet candidates?

This is the same process usually used by companies placing employment ads on-line. Verification of these facts takes place by the employer once a decision to hire has been made.
How do I know if I am allowed to use Grow@ by my company?
Users able to search on the app have been individually approved by the Grow@ Team. This is only done where agreement with the Company has been reached. So, if you can access the service and search on it, you are allowed to use it.
I don’t want to hire without seeing the person.
Any you shouldn’t. The service introduces you to people available and interested in the job. Nothing you do through the app offers anyone employment. The idea is that you first establish that you have a group of people available who can do the work you are offering at the time, place and wage rate you are offering. Once that is established (which the app does for you) you can then appoint up to nine candidates to the assignment. This is not offering them all a job, but allocating them to a job so that you can then decide who would be best for you to employ. When you assign them, you receive their contact details. You can use the app to make arrangements to see them, or you can text / call them and set up a meeting – equally you could arrange a WhatsApp / FaceTime call and interview them over the phone – and you could even get them to take pictures of any important documents and get them to text the pictures to you.
What if I want a permanent staff member, or a casual, or someone on a Fixed Term agreement?
The hiring decision is completely up to you. Terms, conditions, everything. Our part in the solution is getting you people who want to do the work you have in the place you have it at the time you want it done. If you go on to hire that person permanently, use them for the day, or decide they are not the right candidate for you, that’s your business.
I don’t want to have to pay each time I use an employee I have found through the app.
And you don’t have to. The introduction fee you pay is once off, and only for a new introduction. If you hire the person, even just for a day, they are able to add you to their employer list – meaning that next time you search and they are available, their name will show up in you search under the “my company” heading. You can appoint them and, because you have already paid an introduction fee, the transaction cost is a matter of a few cents.
If the candidate has not added you to their employer list, of even if the person has worked for you previously, we will happy reverse any charge for that introduction – we want to introduce new people to you, not ones you already know.

I want to see a CV.
Grow@ is aimed at entry level / lower-skilled roles. So many of the candidates available for work in this area don’t have a cv that will give you any insight into them, and many don’t have one at all. Many employers miss out on great workers as they require written application – we get all candidates to you, filtered by where and when they can work, not by how nice their cv looks!
If you do assign a candidates to a job (with really is a ‘shortlist’) you can ask them to provide you with any documentation you wish, as you will receive their mobile number. They could take photographs of any important documents you want to see, or, if you require it, provide you with a description of their work experience – alternatively you could jump on a call or a video chat with them, and get them to tell you in person.
Can you help with remote recruitment (COVID-19 processes)?
“Contactless recruitment” is entirely possible through he grow@ service. After using the app to assign candidates to a job so that you can select amongst them, you are given the mobile number for each candidate. We recommend that you arrange a video call (through WhatsApp or FaceTime) to interview them as soon as possible. You can then make your final decision and ask for documents to be photographed and sent to you by text. Once done, you can get your paperwork finalised through your company’s normal process.
What does it cost?
Grow@ App is very cost effective. For clients on a licencing agreement, finalisieng assignments cost $26 plus $6 for each candidate. There is no cost if you don’t end up assigning candidates or if the candidates don’t end up accepting the assignment on the app.
Some smaller businesses do not have need for a licence, as they do not require as many new employees. In these instances, the app can be used on an ad hoc basis for $32 per candidate assigned. Again, there is no cost unless a person is assigned and accepts being assigned.
Text messages are charged at 10c per text and an assignemrnt of someone who has listed themselves as working for the same company you do costs only 87c!

Ive tried this – but it did not work?
We have been able to analyse a large number of transactions, and work out the best way of using the search.
In some cases, there simply were not enough candidates available – and we are happy to work with employers when this occurs to develop candidate numbers in particular areas. However, in the vast majority of cases, the best approach to searching was not taken.
Main causes of unsuccessful searches:
When selecting candidates to (how do we best describe this step) notify of the job opportunity in the first step of the search, we have found that selecting at least 50 candidates yields the best results. New functionality on the app now makes this a ‘one click’ process.
There is nothing wrong with trying to find candidates on very short notice, but of course that frequently does not lead to success. Searching for same day or next day candidates limits the success of the search. We recommend searching for jobs for the next 3 to 7 days.
Searching for candidates for time frames beyond 10 days in advance is not advices, as frequently weekly workers are considering their next week, and are often not in a position to plan beyond that.
Many positions pay above the minimum wage by searches still take place on the minimum wage. Cleaners for example, often will put in the MECA wage rate as their minimum, meaning that a search for any amount less than this will not include them. Make sure you are searching for the rate you intend paying (this is easy to change in the “Advanced Search” option on the search screen.
Candidates frequently do not enable their data functions on their phones when out and about. Always using text messaging greatly increases your chances of the message being heard and responses being submitted.
